Song for the Rough Week Ahead…

Oh man, I wish I could wipe all of last week from my memory. It was just endless work. It was crazy. Get up, drive to work, work 12 to 16 hours, drive home, sleep and repeat. Although the project is not complete we can see the end and I hope to see my family this week. I also hope to get back on a regular schedule of posting…

For this weeks video I found one of Joe Ely in his prime. And with one of his best bands…Ponty Bone on accordion, Jessie ‘Guitar’ Taylor on guitar (duh) and Lloyd Maines on steel pedal guitar. This old blurry videotape was filmed in Lubbock, Texas at one of three Tornado Jams that took place in Buddy Holly Park. Some big names in the music business played those shows back when they were not so big and a few that were huge at the time…names like Linda Ronstadt (she was so big at the time) and Stevie Ray Vaughn (he was just starting out). I only went to one of the Jams…saw Joan Jett, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Leon Russell and Joe Ely. It rained off and on, so the park turned into a muddy field. My friends and I was still in high school and we were given beer by kind souls. It was fun.

This video is a very good representation of his live shows back then. You just got to love the sound that Lloyd Maines get out of his pedal steel…
